MAM^® is a generator of acoustic pressure waves modulated in power and frequency for the treatment of pain from muscle contracture. MAM^® therapy is a new discovery in the treatment of pain. The MAM^® treatment neither includes the administration of drugs nor the flow of electricity, so it can be run in patients bearing a pacemaker and in patients receiving hemodialysis.
The treatment is also suitable for those who did not get benefits after treatment with traditional medications (analgesics, anti-inflammatories, steroids, muscle relaxants) with common treatments of physiotherapy, manipulation, infiltration and / or surgery.

The muscle works as a radio transceiver, receives the mechanical signals that originate inside, converts them into electrical signals that it sends to the spinal cord which processes them and sends them back to the muscle by determining the change of tone. The MAM^® treatment stimulates the muscle mechanoreceptors ( muscle spindles) and normalizes the altered muscle tone, that is the basis of pain.
The MAM^® method.
Before the MAM^® treatment the patient undergoes a medical examination that detects the source of pain and gives an indication for the most appropriate treatment. Besides the general clinical examination, it is also performed an objective examination of the musculoskeletal system in order to detect objectively the muscle contractures perceived by the subject and those noticed by palpation. The points in contracture detected during the examination are reported accurately with specific symbols on a card, thus making the MAM^® map of Pain necessary to identify the points to be treated. This map is valuable in monitoring the patient during the course of treatment and allows for a very quick assessment of the appearance of new algic points and / or those that still need treatment.

The application

The cylindrical probe of the device is positioned on the skin without any means of contact such as oil, water or gel. A pedal sends the MAM wave beam for eight seconds on the painful spot to be treated, which is identified by the MAM^® mio-functional map. During the first issue you feel a slight pain which indicates that you are on the correct area of application. The method consists in two steps on every painful point to complete the session. When all the points shown on the map have been treated twice, almost all subjects feel the reduction or disappearance of pain and the recovery of the affected functions.

If the person undergoing the treatment is taking pain medication, the treatment should be continued in the same way and is reduced or eliminated according to medical opinion. There is no need for specific laboratory tests before treatment. X-ray, CT SCAN or RM are desirable. For people with serious heart disease a recent electrocardiogram with cardiological examination are required. The osteopathic or chiropractic treatment ongoing rehabilitation can be continued, as they are made more simple and effective in the resolution of painful contractures.
